It starts cooling immediately. It can be set as low as 60 degrees, has a remote control, and it will cool several rooms. Love this AC! I have also bought a smaller one for another room. I highly recommend this AC unit! It really is icy cold!! Memphis is hot and humid. It has already hit 100 several days in a row. This one unit is all we have right now for 4 rooms and our hallway. We are very comfortable, even will the sweltering heat outside. It blows very hard, and very cold. They start cooling almost immediately, even in the middle of a 95 degree heat wave. Very nice looking units as well, I like the fact that the remote control shows you the ambient room temperature even when the unit is not on. Very easy to install, I did it myself (I am a 120 pound woman) and only needed the hubby to help lift the unit to the window after I had put in the sleeve. The hardware provided is very secure, I have no fears whatsoever of the unit coming out of the window. Shop around though for the best price with shipping and tax (if any).
